Sunday Songs of Grateful Praise - Whiter Than Snow

Last week my sweetheart and I traveled to the mountains of Eastern Oregon to go deer hunting. The views were gorgeous from the mountain roads. The weather was cold and brought some snow. It was obvious that winter was on its way.  As we drove high mountain roads the beauty around us was incredible. I couldn't be still! Songs came to mind and overflowed from my heart and voice. Seeing the snow reminded me of God's promise to us.

'Come now, let's settle this,'
says the Lord.
'Though your sins are like scarlet,
I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
I will make them as white as wool.

Isaiah 1:18
(NLT)

And the prayer of King David came to mind.

Purify me from my sins, and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.

Psalm 51:7
(NLT)

Early one morning as we drove high on the mountain the words of a song I learned as a young girl became my prayer.

Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole;
I want Thee forever to ransom my soul.
Break down ev'ry idol, cast out ev'ry foe:
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Lord Jesus for this I most humbly entreat;
I wait blessed Lord, at Thy crucified feet.
By faith, for my cleansing I see Thy blood flow:
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Lord Jesus, Thou knowest I patiently wait;
Come now, and within me a new heart create.
To those who have sought Thee, Thou never said "No:"
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Chorus:
Whiter than snow, yes whiter than snow;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Song: 'Whiter Than Snow'
Written by James Nicholson (1872)
