Cottage By The Sea

Beach Getaway 1After nearly four months of continual care and supervision of things for my dear, little mother, my sweetheart and I were able to get away for a few days at the Oregon Coast.  When the weatherman forecast winter storms we knew exactly where we wanted to go.  We wanted to stay in a quaint little vintage motel cottage high on the bluff above the beach so we could watch the storms.  And we weren’t disappointed.  The day we arrived was nice.  We were able to enjoy a bit of sun on the beach when we first arrived.
Beach Getaway 2Things began to change a bit as time went by.  We enjoyed lunch at a favorite place and then we checked into our little cottage by the sea.  These motel cottages were built in the nineteen fifties and, although they’ve been updated a bit, the charm of that era is still obvious.  This view from the living room window was why we chose to spend our days away here.
Beach Getaway 3Beautiful knotty pine covered the walls of the living room, kitchen and dining area.
Beach Getaway - Pine WallsI noticed a little door on the wall between the living room and dining area.  Being the curious person I am, I had to open it to find out what was inside.
Beach Getaway - Mystery Door I carefully opened it and found an ironing board.  Imagine ironing while you listen to the waves not far below!
Beach Getaway - Behind the DoorThe cottage had a nice-sized kitchen with nearly everything we needed to fix whatever we wanted to eat. The cabinets fit the vintage style of the cottage.Beach Getaway - Kitchen CabinetThe kitchen includes a dining area beside a big bay window.  Another great view!
Beach Getaway 4The bathroom still had features from the era when the motel cottages were built – soft green tiles on the walls…
Beach Getaway - Vintage Bathroom And a shower with a pink tile floor and glass block walls.
Beach Getaway - Vintage ShowerA storm began to roll in.  The waves grew bigger and the skies got darker.
Beach Getaway - Stormy SeaIt wasn’t long before the wind blew hard and the rain poured down – but we were safe and snug beside a warm fire.
Beach Getaway - Warm FireMy sweetheart and I didn’t go to the beach alone – Joey went with us.  At first he was quite intrigued by the new place but he wasn’t too sure what was happening when the storm winds began to blow.  Then he saw me put his favorite soft throw on the sofa and he knew that’s where he wanted to spend most of his time.
Beach Getaway - Joey AwakeMost of the time he seemed completely unaware of the incredible view outside. Raindrops on the window didn’t seem to bother him and it wasn’t long before he was settled in for a long winter storm nap.
Beach Getaway - Joey AsleepThe rains beat hard against the windows and the wind howled down the chimney all through our second night there.  At times I wondered if we would float right off the bluff and head out to sea!  The storm relented a bit the next morning and we enjoyed the view while we ate breakfast.
Beach Getaway - Storm View - Dining Room 2Then, just before we left the cottage to go to lunch and head home, the skies brightened a bit.  It was a good last memory of time spent away from home - a sweet retreat -  in a quaint, little cottage by the sea.

  6. Hi Adrienne! Oh, what a lovely place for a few days away. I just love the older places and not the cookie cutter newer places! Little Joey is so cute too. I'm so glad he did well during the storm. Chloe Dawn gets scared to death and trembles so hard I even worry about her.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia;)

  8. Hi Adrienne! I'm still enjoying seeing your sweet cottage you stayed in. Thank you for popping in to see me. I was given a set of green and white Pyrex bowls when I got married and now I don't even have one of them. I have seen the multi colored mixing bowls in thrift shops and they want a fortune for them!
