Precious Memories

This morning we are leaving town for a few days. My dear little mother will turn 85 on Tuesday and we are taking her to the Oregon Coast for a few days. She recently had a heart attack - her 2nd through the last years. She is not well at all and her strength has been decreased very much. My sweetheart and I have rented a lovely home on the bluff above the ocean where we can sit and watch the waves through the windows. My dear mother is not strong enough for a big family celebration so we planned this trip for a special quiet time together. Just her, my sweetheart and I. She and I will visit an antique or thrift shop together. Slowly. One at a time with rest in between. We never know what a day will bring and we are trying to make each day special and value each moment together. That's what we should all do - always - all the time - with everyone in our lives. So I will be away for a few days and will share about our trip together when I return. Until then we will be talking and reminiscing much about our memories. Our precious memories.
Precious memories, unseen angels,
Sent from somewhere to my soul;
How they linger, ever near me,
And the sacred past unfold.

Chorus
Precious memories, how they linger,
How they ever flood my soul;
In the stillness of the midnight,
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.

Precious father, loving mother,
Fly across the lonely years;
And old homescenes of my childhood,
In fond memory appears.

In the stillness of the midnight,
Echoes from the past I hear;
Old time singing, gladness bringing,
From that lovely land somewhere.

As I travel on life's pathway,
Know not what the years may hold;
As I ponder, hope grows fonder,
Precious memories flood my soul.

Song: "Precious Memories"

  1. Adrienne,
    You are a wonderful daughter. I try to be that kind of daughter with my own parents...and I continually try to make special memories with them as they too are aging. Enjoy the peaceful time with mom...she is so lucky to have you.

  15. Today is your dear little Mother's birthday, and what a wonderful birthday gift you are giving her! I can't think of anything better than a peaceful retreat like you described! And of course a visit to an antique store is just icing on the cake!!

    You are so sweet to your little Mother, and you will be blessed for this. Your Sweetheart is also to be commended for his participation in the celebration.
