A Quiet Place

Lately I have been so aware of the noise in my life - both in the world around me and in my head. I have felt the need to get away to a quiet place. Someplace away from the hectic pace of everyday life -- where I could find a quiet place in my soul. This old hymn came to mind and I have sung it over and over again.

Verse 1
There is a place of quiet rest,
Near to the heart of God.
A place where sin cannot molest,
Near to the heart of God.

Chorus
O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
Sent from the heart of God,
Hold us who wait before Thee
Near to the heart of God.

Verse 2
There is a place of comfort sweet,
Near to the heart of God.
A place where we our Savior meet,
Near to the heart of God.

Verse 3
There is a place of full release,
Near to the heart of God.
A place where all is joy and peace,
Near to the heart of God.

That is the answer -- that quiet place near to the heart of God, my Father, is the only place of real quiet. From that quiet place I can face the noise that is life. It will still be noisy out there but I will have a quiet peace that keeps me in the middle of it all.

There is a quiet place
far from the rapid pace
where God can soothe my troubled mind.
Sheltered by tree and flower
there in my quiet hour with him
my cares are left behind.
Whether a garden small,
or on a mountain tall
new strength and courage there I find,
and then from that quiet place
I go prepared to face a new day
with love for all mankind.

I am so grateful that He speaks to me in those quiet places of my heart and all other sounds fade into the background as I still my heart and listen. Be still my soul.
"In quietness and confidence shall be your strength".
Isaiah 30:15
