Attitude of Gratitude

Let the peace of Christ rule
in your hearts. . . And be thankful
Colossians 3:15 NIV

Thankfulness isn't our usual response when something goes wrong. We may have a hundred good things for which to be thankful - but let one bad thing happen, and it's all we think about!

But the Bible says, 'in everything give thanks' (I Thessalonians 5:18). No matter what happens, we are to give thanks. Cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving in your life. Thank God for every blessing He gives you. Thank Him for Christ and what He has done for you. Even when things go wrong. thank Him that they aren't worse, and you are still in His hands.

Having an attitude of thankfulness in all of life's circumstances will help you react as old Matthew Henry did when he was mugged. He wrote in his diary, 'Let me be thankful first because I was never robbed before; second, although they took my purse, they did not take my life; third, because although they took my all, it was not much; and fourth, because it was I who was robbed, not I who robbed.'

I wonder if I could be that thankful!

from 'Hope For The Heart' by Billy Graham

  5. Adrienne, right now I have an "Attitude of Gratitude" that I and my family don't live in the gulf states with the storms coming.

Please remember to pray for all of those families.

    Blessings,

  7. So true. What many people do not realise is that we do not have to 'feel' thankful. It is a choice and the feelings usually catch up later.

I know that I can be thankful for everythoing no matter what I feel because we have such a trust worthy God who never lets us down.

  9. Very appropriate post for today. I was not so happy about paying $600 for a car check-up today. Now I am thankful I have a car. I am thankful we have money to fix that car. I am thankful to feel safe that the brakes will work when I press them. I am thankful there are people with the knowledge to fix my car too!!

How was your trip? I was thinking about you when it was cold and pouring rain outside. I hope you had warm shelter!!

    Warmest bear hugs, Aleta
